John Finnan, Teagasc, Ireland

John Finnan completed a PhD and two post-doctoral fellowships at Teagasc, Oak Park Research Centre from 1990 to 1999 during which he conducted research on the impact of elevated levels of aerial pollutants and elevated levels of greenhouse gases on crop growth and development.

Teagasc is a government agency which supports the Irish agriculture industry through research, advice and education. He joined the Environmental Protection Agency in 2000  before joining Teagasc again in 2007 and taking charge of the bioenergy research programme at Oak Park.

The Bioenergy research programme at Oak Park is currently focussed an the development of new and existing energy crops and includes studies on energy crops agronomy, biomass pelleting and combustion in addition to studies of interactions between energy crop use and the environment.
