Hayati Olgun

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hayati Olgun is working at the Energy Institute of the Marmara Research Center in Tubitak and acts as task member to Task 32.

He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Karadeniz Technical University. He got his MSc and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University. He has carried out his post-doctorate studies at Newcastle University, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering (UK) on biomass gasification (1998).

His experience is based on coal/biomass combustion and gasification systems, renewable energy systems (especially small hydro and solar energy), power systems, energy conservation, optimization and simulation of thermal systems and fuel processing. He has been working as a senior researcher at TUBITAK MRC Energy Institute since 1999, is author of more than 50 publications in journal papers and conference proceedings and has directed several research projects and theses on Ph.D., M.Sc. and B. Sc. levels.

He is the project leader/researcher of several national and industrial projects, such as:

  • Diesel Fuel Processors for Fuel Cells (DESIRE), 2001-2004

  • BIGPOWER (Improvement of the S&T Research Capacity of TUBITAK MRC EI in the Fields of Integrated Biomass Gasification with Power Technologies), 2005-2008 within EU 6th Framework Program

  • Gasification of Coal and Biomass Mixtures and Gas Cleaning, 2005-2008, funded by State Planning Organization of Turkey

  • Development of Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Combustion Technology and Investigation of Biomass/ Lignite Coal Combustion, 2006-2010

  • High Added Value Materials from Waste Tyre Gasification Residues, EU FP 7 Project, 2009-2012

  • Designing and Manufacturing of 250 kWe Fixed bed Biomass Gasifier, Industrial Project, 2009-2010

  • Designing and Manufacturing of 2 MWe Fluidized Bed Gasifier, Industrial, Project, 2009-2011.
